My student ID has been an essential part of college life, acting as both a friend and a source of frustration. It has opened doors to benefits, such as discounts on bowling, which offers a fun escape after tough classes. A memorable moment occurred when I and a friend settled an argument about the Grand Prix with a bowling match, though I lost, it highlighted the importance of leisure amidst academic pressure.
Another situation arose at the hospital. Being over 18 often complicates things, requiring documents like KRA pins and health insurance. Thankfully, my student ID allowed me to benefit from my parents' insurance, especially during a painful toothache when I needed quick treatment without stressing over costs.
The ID also proved useful in internships. During a nutrition program (am pursuing a course in health), confusion over paperwork arose, and my student status protected me from blame, though my supervisor faced the consequences.
However, the ID can also be a hindrance. It limits my application for work since it shows I lack professional experience, despite my volunteer work. Additionally, strict school policies on grooming and ID checks caused issues, especially when I lost my ID and had to rely on my mother to resolve the situation at the dean's office. Despite its challenges, I appreciate my student ID. It’s a crucial part of my journey.
