Imposter Syndrome

Can we talk about imposter syndrome and how it quietly cripples you?

Juzi I attended a networking event, and during lunch I was seated with some amazing women. Everyone was introducing themselves and what they do, and I was honestly so impressed. Then it got to me… and I froze.

I told them, “I’ll tell y’all later.”

They asked why, and I brushed it off like, “Ah yangu si big deal, it’s just for fun.”

But the truth is… it is a big deal.

I’m a creative. I’ve written 2 ebooks. I’ve produced 6 episodes of my web series on YouTube. I’m currently writing my next book, planning my next production, and working on hosting my first event, Girlies and Vibes for women in their 20s navigating a quarter-life crisis.

That’s real work. That’s real IP.

But every time someone asks me what I do, I shrink. I downplay it. I hide behind “it’s just for fun” because of fear… fear of perception, fear of “what will people say?”

And it’s frustrating because this is something I genuinely love. It’s purposeful to me. I tell stories that reflect society.

Yet sometimes, even I treat my own work like a joke.

Imposter syndrome has a way of making you feel like you don’t deserve to take up space, even in rooms you’ve already earned your way into.

So I’m asking, for real:

How do you overcome imposter syndrome and the fear of being perceived? 🤍
