High Agency in Freelancing

In the world of remote work and digital freelancing, there is a phrase I’ve come to live by: High Agency. Most people wait for a perfect set of instructions or a guarantee that a plan will work before they take the first step. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned navigating the Kenyan digital economy, it’s that the "perfect moment" is a myth.
A few years ago, I found myself stuck between a career transition and a lot of uncertainty. I could have waited for the "right" job to find me, but instead, I decided to treat myself like a startup. I started vetting platforms, taking tests, and putting my skills out there, even when I wasn't 100% sure where it would lead.
I realized that "High Agency" isn't about having all the answers; it’s about the refusal to be a bystander in your own life. It’s about looking at a closed door and instead of waiting for a key, looking for a way to build a new door.
Don't wait for permission to be great. Just start. The instructions usually reveal themselves once you’re already moving.
