Life has taught me to always be humble and never swear not to do some things. I had worked for a group of schools as a cook. Pay was good and I didn't need to buy food. I had been given a small room next to the kitchen store where we shared with my workmate Karanja as our bedroom.
Karanja used to pick small quantities of food items ,hide them in his white gumboots and later in the evening take them to a woman he called his 'kachulbari'. I hated this and actually told him, he was not a sincere man.
During one April holiday, Karanja asked me to visit him in his rented house in kawangware. Because schools were closed, I readily agreed. During our introductions, Karanja's kachulbari asked me to stay for the night. I didnt refuse.
At around ten in the night, I was taken to a separate house to sleep. Wonders.
What happened in that house is a story for another day. When schools opened, I joined Karanja in doing the small pickings. Never say never.
