It was in the year 2006. We the the candidates of Kianyaga High School had high expectations of registering for our final exams. I really recall very well that it was on a Friday, 10th March and the next day, Saturday was a day that we were to host the District's Science Congress competitions. As a candidate, I had huge plan to get a girlfriend from one of those schools that would attend. It was every boy's dream to be seen walking around with beautiful girls. Now, I had one problem: I was shy and feared to approach girls. Solution, find a way to sneak out of school, grab some alcohol and drink it the next day. By this, I would be very confident to approach any girl, especially those from big schools like Bishop Gatimu Ngandu. Having decided on this, the next plan was to execute it.
I joined one boy, Maina, who was popular in sneaking and by 8.00 Pm, we were already on our way to the neighboring Kianyaga town. We did our 'shopping' and it was time to go back to school. The 'panya' route we were using was just next to the school gate where guards were also stationed. As we were entering, a guard heard the screeching of the barbed wire. All the guards were put on high alert and they charged towards our direction. Luckily, I was already inside the school compound and the next sprint was one that even Usain Bolt could never make. I was still carrying my 'cargo' and luckily I managed to get into the already crowded dormitory. During our time, security guards would never try to enter into the dormitories. Their race ended at the doorstep of the dorm.
Satan comes in many ways, now that I had survived the ordeal, I looked into my 'cargo' and noticed that I had not bought cigarettes. I had to have them at all cost. I had to sneak again. Sneaking, I did. As I was walking past the gate, I noticed shadows in the dark. They stopped me! It was the school guards patrolling along the road to check if they could catch any student on the run. I confidently stopped. They asked my identity and I lied that I was not a student and was walking home from an errand. They told me to sit at the gate as they called the school principal so that he could identify me. When the principal came, he positively identified me. The worst thing happened when a guard brought out a bag that he claimed was mine. The bag's contents were said to be Marijuana and alcohol. The principal suggested that I be taken to the nearby police station. That was how I failed to attend both the Science Congress and the registration of the final exam that was to be done in the next week.
