Transitioning from high school education to university education in Kenya can have various challenges.
At first we were told that university is highly associated with success and good life but this can prove to be untrue if one does not develop resilience and hope. Day one at the University, filled with hope and joy of finding good interactive friends and moreso provided a chance to engage socially in interactive sessions with room mates in our shared and well furnished hostel.
Week one everything was nice, no classes, no learning and no environmental stressors such as noise and bad weather conditions; the weather was very favorable. We could spend long hours on our phones playing dream leagues which I can describe was used as a coping mechanism for transitioning. Days went and classes began, pocket money over and each one is now turning to dear parents for daily financial support. This is the point where stress begins among university students. With low financial management and literacy you find yourself missing lunch and sometimes supper -a common term by students called "kuinama".
Many students switch to part time odd jobs to cater for their needs. Hope and resilience keeps us going.
