Recently I had an interesting encounter at night. So I had gone to an event, which was about Mental health given it's mental health month, and I had exact fare to and fro. I had also budgeted for my nduthi ride back home, so ilikuwa niende na mat, nirudi na nduthi ju ingekuwa usiku... so kufika, the event was so good and impactful, had a great time, met amazing people. Event ikaisha kitu 9pm so ni time ya kurudi home, hapa ndio nilijua hii town usitembee na simu haina airtime. so sikuwa na credo, but I knew there was a way I'd just purchase data direct from Mpesa without paying okoa jahazi😂🫣 so nikabuy data ya 10 bob, ikamezwa na sijui what, so I can't access Bolt to request for my bike ride home. Mind you it's a scattered place, watu sio wengi, ni usiku and I'm a girl. I got so scared, I can't buy more data otherwise nitakosa pesa ya nduthi, and it's almost 9.30pm, so I decided to take a walk as I try find a solution, nikitembea hivi I saw a young guy who had a mechanic's apron, he looked at me and said hi, I said hi back and then nikajipata tu nikimuuliza kama anaeza ni hotspot because I need to order a ride home and I don't have data, he said yes. wow... I was now starting to feel relief after panicking 2 minutes ago, so this guy whose name I came to learn later on is Gidii, akajitolea akabuy data then akanihotspot, so in that moment we started taking a walk yeye akielekea penye gari anaunda iko, so tunachapa story hapa as I'm ordering my ride, kuorder ride inaniambia 20 minutes away, what do you mean 20 minutes awayðŸ˜ðŸ˜ karibu nilie, I cancelled ordered another, 10 minutes away, we waited as we walked around with Gidii for a while.
No ride was coming, so Gidii is like si you call him ask him where he is, nikamshow sina credo, akaniangalia Tu then he asked for the number ya msee wa nduthi, I gave him, he called him and spoke on my behalf akielezea msee wa nduthi penye tuko etc, and oh, felt good, then we waited, had a chat, and I kept telling him thank you ju ni usiku and he is just helping me out with no strings attached. 10 mins later my ride arrived, I hopped on and said my byes to Gidii, and got home after being stranded for 40 minutes plus in an unknown area.
Lesson learnt, have extra money for airtime and please always have airtime😂 karibu nilale nje Leo, hiyo place haikuwa na mat za kuenda kwetu or tao.. ju nilikuwa the opposite side of town. anyway grateful to that stranger. The world needs more Giidiis.
