WHY ME
I have always been the "I don’t care" type of girl all my life. At some point I thought it was going
to work for me, but to my surprise it is not that obvious and it's a bit complicated. Growing up was a challenge because I was the acting last born. I was second last in our family. As I was growing
up I had a lot of aspirations. I wanted to be a role model. I didn’t really like the idea that men are
better than women but I thank God I had really great parents who did not differentiate between
girl child and boy child. They treated all of us as equals and loved us both passionately.
I had a rough time growing up, I remember one day I was sleeping then I had this terrible
dream, I was in the middle of the forest and I had been put in a raised place and lions were
surrounding me getting ready, warming up actually to devour me “I screamed so loudly alarming
everyone to a sudden wakeup call. Mum rushed into my room like a thunder storm. On arrival
she found me divested and gulping for my breath. She grabbed me and assured me that
everything was going to be fine, she was a prayerful woman so she did what she is good at, she
prayed for me then rocked me into her arms until I fell asleep.
This was kind of I thought than a dream I was seated in class when I was in form one at Moi
girls Nangili then I had something telling me to lookup a single word in the kamusi (Swahili
dictionary) -naungama so I did and boom I composed my first song out of the blue until today I
can’t explain where all the words came from. If this is not God's favor of showing me he loves
me please then tell me what it is.
Just before I finished high school education I had another disturbing dream. In this dream there
was a great gathering. I wondered what it was but there was something really strange about it, I
could see a faded vision of a human being dressed in black and this image just stood there
looking away from me. The suddenly the dream ended and my mind started racing. I had an aunt that was so sick she had a disease called leukemia(cancer of blood ) we were very close, she was
really prayerful so most of the time she used to read the bible at night. I used to love her so
much that most of the time I am home I would run away from my bed and go to sleep with her.
Mummy used to quarrel all the time until she just let me sleep there.
My aunty used to wake up at 5:00am every day. She would light the lamp since we didn't have
electricity those days so I used to wake up too so that we could pray together. The next day
came and after the assembly on my way to the class I bumped into my uncle and I knew
something was wrong. The look on my uncle's face told me that my aunt was no more. He said
to me your aunt has gone to meet her maker. I really cried. I could see it clear God showed me
this dream. I really cherish the moment we shared with her, she is gone but here memories will
leave forever in my heart.
