My phone rang once and went silent. It was my younger brother. I called immediately, but it was switched off.
That night I couldn't sleep . I kept imagining the worst . In the morning I borrowed matatu transport and travelled home still asking myself alot of questions. When I arrived everyone looked surprised to me.
My brother laughed and said, I only wanted to ask if you still have the old charger I left with you. My phone died b4 you called back. I smiled but I'm inside I felt foolish.
As I prepared to leave, my mother quickly handed me a small envelope. Inside was the money she had been saving little by little from selling vegetables.
I had travelled home bcoz of fear, bt I returned carrying something far more valuable than money. The reminder that even when life feels lonely, someone is silently thinking, praying and doing their best to keep me going.
The missed call
