"Hakuna watu huonyeshwa giza kama those with good intentions." This bitter truth became my reality after years of unwavering loyalty to my childhood friend, Kevin.
Kevin had been struggling for over two years to secure a stable job. Watching him sink into depression broke my heart. I decided to use every resource, connection, and ounce of energy I had to rescue him. I polished his resume, coached him through mock interviews, and eventually used my personal relationship with a senior manager at a top-tier tech firm to get him an interview. I practically begged the hiring team to give him a chance, vouching for his character with my own professional reputation.
My efforts paid off, and Kevin was called for the final interview. I spent sleepless nights helping him prepare, ensuring he wouldn't miss a single detail. When he finally landed the job as a Senior Operations Officer, we celebrated like kings. I was genuinely proud of him, believing that his win was a win for both of us.
However, success changed Kevin overnight. As he climbed the corporate ladder, he began distancing himself from me, viewing me as a reminder of his former desperation. Worse, when internal office politics arose regarding a departmental promotion, Kevin saw me as a threat. To secure his own standing and appease upper management, he fabricated malicious lies, claiming I had leaked confidential company data and tried to sabotage his department.
The betrayal cut deeper than any knife. Without giving me a fair chance to defend myself, the company management summoned me, stripped me of my badge, and chased me out of the premises in disgrace. Kevin stood by the office window, watching silently as security escorted me out, safely retaining his position in the company I had sacrificed so much to put him in.
Ungrateful Kevin
